Shaquem Griffin, LB, UCF

I am a huge fan of Shaquem Griffin, as are a lot of people heading into the 2018 NFL Draft. Not only is Griffin a feel-good story, making it this far in his football career with just one hand; he is also a legitimate playmaker that deserves to line up in an NFL defense and wreck havoc on opposing offenses.

Griffin is legitimately talented and his worth goes much, much farther than that of just a good story. He can be a legitimate contributor in any NFL system and probably would be a late first, early second-round pick if it was not for the concerns around his hand.

However, since there are concerns and NFL teams hate taking risks it seems like, Griffin will likely fall anywhere from the late third to early fifth-round. It’ll all come down to what team wants to take a risk on Griffin.

That team should be the Chargers. The Los Angeles Chargers need all the help they can get in stopping the run and Griffin would be the perfect guy to help bring in. He has the speed and explosiveness to cover any gaps and is a good tackler.

The biggest concern around Griffin is his coverage in passing schemes with just one hand and his ability to break blocks. However, the Chargers should just utilize him as an open-field backer that would make plays when needed.

With a fourth-round pick, you couldn’t really ask for more and the Chargers would be getting a second-round talent. Griffin has been proving people wrong his entire life. There is no doubt in my mind that he will continue that trend into the NFL.
