Los Angeles Chargers: Last minute surprise picks that could be made
By Jason Reed
The 2018 NFL Draft is just one day away and just about every possible scenario has been presented. However, the Los Angeles Chargers may still have a trick up the sleeve.
Mock drafts and expert predictions are huge during the 2018 NFL Draft, they help give a sense to the common football fan on what players each team is targeting. Often times, it is easy to predict where the elite prospects will land; it’s usually later in the draft that shakes things up. With the 17th overall pick, the Los Angeles Chargers have that potential.
The Los Angeles Chargers often shy away from the expected outcome, anyway. Last year, many had the Chargers selecting either Jamal Adams or Malik Hooker with the seventh overall pick — both safeties. Despite Hooker being on the board when it was the Chargers’ turn on the clock, the team went with a receiver in Mike Williams.
In 2016 Mel Kiper had the Chargers selecting offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil, which was a common consensus by many draft analysts. Instead, the Chargers selected Joey Bosa out of Ohio State with the pick. Bosa won the Defensive Rookie of the Year and is part of the best edge rush in football; Tunsil has been an average tackle. Good pick.
The point I am trying to make is simple: the Los Angeles Chargers usually zig when everyone else zags. Thus, despite how much we want to think that we know who the team will pick, it very well could be a shocker.
With that in mind, here is three surprise picks the Chargers could make in the 2018 NFL Draft.
