Lakers rumors: Why the Lakers are the most intriguing for Paul George
By Jason Reed
All of the Lakers rumors around Paul George are becoming more real with George reportedly walking away from the Oklahoma City Thunder this summer.
The NBA is very much like any major sport. When it comes to winning championships, you need a superstar to lead the way.
For much of the team’s history, the Los Angeles Lakers have had superstars to lead the way. From Jerry West to Magic Johnson to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to Shaquille O’Neal to Kobe Bryant, the list of superstar Lakers goes on and on.
That is why the Lakers are the second-winningest team in NBA history with 16 NBA Championships. Spread out since the late 1940s, the Lakers have arguably been the most consistent elite-tier team in the NBA.
Right now, the Los Angeles Lakers do not have a superstar. While the team does possess a young core that could develop stars, for now, that is all just promise. That is why the Lakers have missed five consecutive NBA Playoffs; matching the franchise total from the 70+ years prior.
Paul George has been painted as that lord and savior for the Lakers. A hometown player, George is the proverbial knight in shining armor that will turn the tide around in LA. He is the reason why the Lakers enter the summer with $61 million in cap space. All signs have been pointing to him.
With George reportedly not returning to the Thunder this offseason, the Lakers are just one step closer to signing George. However, there will be some competition. Some of which may seem like a better fit for George.
But there is no better fit. This has been cooking for over a year. The Los Angeles Lakers are the perfect team for Paul George. Here is why.
