Los Angeles Lakers: Building the perfect team around LeBron James in LA
By Jason Reed
The three-point specialist: Seth Curry
Wouldn’t this be epic? LeBron James teaming up with Seth Curry to try and dethrone Seth’s brother, Steph, as the best team in the Western Conference. Sorry, big brother, you have to do what you have to do to win a ring in the NBA.
Every LeBron James contending team has had that one three-point specialist, most of the time coming off of the bench. In Miami, the team first went to Mike Miller for that catch and shoot outlet pass. He shot 41.2 percent from beyond the arc as a member of the Heat.
After him was Ray Allen, who hit one of the greatest shots of all-time to keep the Miami Heat in the 2013 Finals (and ultimately win).
J.R. Smith was turned to as that option in LeBron’s return to Cleveland. And while Smith did provide a good option for James, the team also brought in Kyle Korver, who has been huge off of the bench for the Cavs in the last few years.
The Lakers do not really have that catch and shoot specialist on the roster, so turning to free agency is the next best bet. In free agency, the best available option probably is Seth Curry, who the Lakers can sign for fairly cheap to provide a spark off of the bench.
Curry is a career 43.2 percent shooter from beyond the arc. He would be a huge addition of the bench behind Lonzo Ball when the Lakers need scoring. As good as Ball is as an all-around player, he is not a reliable shooter. Curry is.
