3. Does the LaVar Ball noise really matter?

The Los Angeles Lakers have been painted as a utopian destination for superstar free agents this offseason. The bright lights of LA, the sunny beaches and weather that always floats around 70 degrees, the marketing opportunities, the legacy, the very talented young core. There has been just one thing that some point at as a potential roadblock for stars to come to Los Angeles.

And that roadblock is LaVar Ball.

LaVar Ball says crazy things, we all know that. He is the same father that claimed his son, Lonzo, was better than Steph Curry before even making his NBA debut. He also is the same father that recently proclaimed that his son is better than Kawhi Leonard.

LaVar has said some pretty crazy things and has painted a somewhat negative picture around his son, Lonzo. Despite being a soft-spoken leader that had an obvious impact on the Lakers’ offense last season, Ball is thrown under the spotlight and ridiculed for every missed jumper.

Understandably, it is common wisdom to think that the NBA’s biggest stars, with the biggest brands to maintain, would want to stay away from LA and LaVar. LaVar definitely is not shy in giving his opinion about Luke Walton, what would stop him from publically bashing LeBron James or Paul George for missing a game-winner that his son should have taken?

However, at the end of the day, he is ultimately just a father that has some overconfidence in his son. While he definitely does get a lot of attention. nobody knows how much attention the NBA’s elite gives him.

We will find that out this offseason.
