Los Angeles Clippers: Potential trade suitors for DeAndre Jordan
By Jason Reed
Much like the player option situations of the last offseason, the Los Angeles Clippers may be dealing with a trade situation around DeAndre Jordan.
The Los Angeles Clippers had two players with player options last summer: Chris Paul and Blake Griffin. At the time, the common consensus was that both would either opt in or opt out together, deciding the fate of the Clippers themselves.
It was not that simple. Chris Paul utilized his player option to agree to a sign and trade deal that landed him on the Houston Rockets. Without the nature of that deal, the salary cap would have held the Rockets back from acquiring Paul.
After that, it was expected that Blake Griffin would opt out of his deal and walk. However, that was not the case. Griffin signed a max deal with the Clippers and was declared a Clipper for life. Of course, before being traded to the Detroit Pistons.
Both situations ended in a trade. For DeAndre Jordan, the same fate is likely. While he could opt out of his deal, he is set to make $24 million; much more than he will make on the open market.
However, the Los Angeles Clippers may not be the best place for Jordan. Los Angeles needs to establish an identity, right now, the franchise is stuck in between. If the team wants to add pieces to contend around Jordan than great.
However, that is going to be difficult to pull off. With his player option, Jordan has all the leverage to force a trade to a team that wouldn’t be able to afford him otherwise.
Here are three teams that could be potential trade suitors for Jordan.
