From Friday, we are going to start compiling the five best players of the week for the Los Angeles Dodgers; starting with a pretty lackluster week.

We here at LA Sports Hub thought we needed a recurring series for baseball. Thus, every weekend you will get a Dodgers and Angels five best players of the week as well as a Dodgers and Angels prospect team of the week. Friday’s will be reserved for the five best players on the Dodgers.

In our opening installment of this new series, we do not have a great week of baseball to reflect upon. The Los Angeles Dodgers went a disappointing 1-6 to two of the worst teams in baseball, the Reds and the Marlins. This was a week of opportunity for the Dodgers to climb back into the playoff race. Instead, it cemented them to many as one of the worst teams in baseball.

There is still time in the season to tell whether or not that is true. However, enough of the bigger picture.

Let’s take a look at the five best Dodgers from last week.

5. Alex Wood

  • Weekly stats: 0-1, 6.0 IP, 1.50 ERA, 5 Ks

Alex Wood did not really even have a good week yet the lack of players that deserved to crack the top five allowed Wood on this list. Wood made just one start in this time frame and was actually pretty good against the Marlins.

In six innings, Wood struck out five batters while allowing just one earned run. However, the Dodgers offense was not able to put a run on the board until the seventh inning. At that point, the Marlins were already up by two as they scored an unearned run in the first off of an error.

If the Dodgers won this game everyone would be talking about the great game that Alex Wood tossed. Instead, Wood’s good performance gets forgotten behind the cloud that was a six-game losing streak.
