In the first installment of our weekly players of the week series, we take a look at the five best Los Angeles Angels over the last seven days of action.

Every Saturday here at LA Sports Hub, we are going to give you our five best players of the week for the Los Angeles Angels. Every Friday, the Los Angeles Dodgers get the same treatment. Then, on Sunday and Monday, we will give you the Dodgers and Angels prospects team of the week, respectively.

This week has not been a great one for the Los Angeles Angels, who followed a series loss to the Houston Astros by dropping the first two games against the Tampa Bay Rays. All in all, the Angels are losers of four straight.

The Angels lost out on a Wild Card spot because of this slide as the team is now half a game back of the Seattle Mariners for the second Wild Card spot. Of course, that is no gap to freak out over, the Los Angeles Angels are doing just fine with a 25-20 record.

Without further ado, let’s get into the five best Angels’ players from the last seven days of action.

5. SS Andrelton Simmons

  • Stats over last seven days: .269 AVG, 2 RBI, 2 R, 7 Hits (leads team)

Andrelton Simmons did not necessarily have a great week at the plate but was good enough to crack the top-five for the week. The Angels offense was pretty woeful this past week with only two bats really making a difference.

Simmons was one of them. And while he did not drive in many RBIs or score many runs, he did lead the team in total hits. However, Simmons did not have the best batting average on the week, hence why he is included as the fifth man on this list.

Simmons has built upon a hot 2017 season that arguably should have placed him higher on the MVP voting. Thus far, Simmons is hitting .338 on the season with three home runs and 35 RBIs. No longer is Simmons just a great defensive shortstop, he is arguably the best shortstop in baseball.
