The choice between the best and second-best player of the week for the Los Angeles Angels was a toss-up. Really, you could argue that either Garrett Richards or the number one guy on this list deserves player of the week honors. However, there could only be one and Richards just narrowly misses out on the top spot for the week.

Garrett Richards gave the Angels a vintage Richards performance against the Washington Nationals that, again, should have been more than enough for the Halos to get the victory.

Richards made his start on Wednesday after Barria’s great start and followed with an even better performance. Richards allowed just two runs over seven frames, both of which were unearned. Evan Gattis hit a two-run home run in the second inning that happened after Zack Cozart made a throwing error on what should have been an inning-ending groundout.

Thus, since the at-bat should have never happened, the runs were unearned and Richards finished the game with a pretty 0.00 ERA.

However, Richards’ efforts could not help the Angels’ offense; which got shutout and only registered five hits. A great effort from Richards, but nothing to show for it in the win column.
