Los Angeles Dodgers Beat the Streak selections – May 20
Today the Dodgers look to get a W against Strasburg and the Nationals before heading back to LA for a three-game set against the Rockies.
Well Dodgers nation, it was a wild weekend. If you were to pick a city within the contiguous 48-states for the Dodgers to deal with radically different conditions, it would be D.C. Los Angeles hardly ever see’s rain, and the Dodgers saw more rain in two days in D.C than they will all season while on the west coast.
In today’s game, the Dodgers will send Alex Wood to the mound opposite Stephen Strasburg. After today, the Dodgers will hop on a plane for a cross-country flight back to LA.
Due to the doubleheader, and the uncertainty of the series, neither Jason or myself posted our picks for Saturday, but we’re back today with our picks as to who will get a knock for the Dodgers in the final game of the series.
Jason’s pick — Current Streak 3: Justin Turner
Justin Turner was granted the second game off of the doubleheader last night in favor of Max Muncy, who was responsible for the Dodgers’ only two runs off of Max Scherzer. And while all of the love may go towards Matt Kemp, that double was not possible without Muncy.
On Sunday the Dodgers have the equally daunting task of facing Stephen Strasburg. Doing something I usually don’t do in this series (because it always messes me up) I took a look at the team’s batting lines against Scherzer.
In doing so, I found out that Justin Turner has some good success against Strasburg, although it is a relatively small sample size. Turner is 3-5 off of Strasburg in his career with two home runs. It is safe to say that Turner sees the ball well from Strasburg.
Sarah’ pick — Current Streak 5: Cody Bellinger
My pick for today is Cody Bellinger. He hasn’t been too hot as of late but is due for a solid game. The biggest problem with Bellinger’s game, at this point, is strikeouts. He’s been swinging at balls far outside the zone and has been missing pitches he almost always launches.
I don’t think Bellinger is going to live up to the hype he created last season, but who says he has to?

39 home runs is a lot, even for someone who’s been in the game for years. Bellinger, even if he doesn’t have the best year, is still capable of hitting 25+ homers. That, in it of itself, is great. Nationals pitching is tough to beat, but if the Dodgers can, I think Bellinger will play a part in it.
