Jason Verrett — Comeback Player of the Year

Jason Verrett was mentioned as part of the scary secondary that the Los Angeles Chargers could field. This, of course, is assuming that Verrett will actually be healthy and ready to play in the 2018 season.

Verrett has battled his share of injuries which has ultimately kept him from ever reaching his ceiling. We have seen glimpses of what Verrett can do as a lockdown corner, but never any extended evidence. While he has been voted to one Pro Bowl, the conversation would be completely different if he could stay healthy.

Last season, Verrett played in just one game for the Los Angeles Chargers, the first game of the season. Verrett was placed on the IR 12 days later after it was confirmed that his healing knee needed yet another surgery.

Verrett has played just five games for the Los Angeles Chargers the last two seasons. Were he to come back and play All-Pro caliber, forming the scariest cornerback 1-2 punch alongside Casey Hayward, it would definitely be Comeback Player of the Year worthy.

However, what makes this unlikely is Verrett’s competition for the award. Notable names such as DeShaun Watson, Odell Beckham Jr. and David Johnson will all be in the running for the award. All were included in Randy Gurzi’s — of NFL Spin Zone — most likely Comeback Player of the Year winners. Verret was not.
