After taking two of three against the San Diego Padres, the Los Angeles Dodgers start a new four-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Los Angeles Dodgers continued a hot streak by taking two out of three games against the San Diego Padres. Now, the Dodgers have a new test against the surprisingly first-place Philadelphia Phillies.

Last season, the Dodgers’ hot streak really took off against the Phillies. It a moment that became known as “absolute madness,” the Dodgers slugged three consecutive solo home runs in the ninth inning to tie the game and eventually win.

With the Dodgers already gaining traction, the comparisons to last season are heavy. If the Dodgers do pull out a four-game sweep, it is safe to put them back into true playoff contention as they could even be leading the NL West.

It is important as well that selective Dodgers get a base hit to help extend out beat the streak series. Last night, I went with Logan Forsythe against a southpaw. While he did not come up with a big hit as I thought, he did still come away with a 1-4 outing.

Sarah went with Yasmani Grandal, despite facing a southpaw, who batted clean up. Grandal did not come through in a run-producing sense but did go 1-3, extending Sarah’s streak as well.

Sarah’s pick — Current streak 2: Matt Kemp

My pick for today is Matt Kemp. He’s clearly been one of the Dodgers strongest hitters this season, and as the Dodgers get ready to face the strongest team in the NL, they’ll need him. That’s right, tonight the Philadelphia Phillies, Chase Utley’s former team, is coming to town. They will send Vince Velasquez to the mound who is 4-5 with a 4.18 ERA.

The Dodgers will counter with Brock Stewart, who’s been strong, but is not a bona fide starter yet. Tonight’s game is going to be very, very important for the offense, as they will have to help a struggling Dodgers pen get the W.

So, as the Dodgers enter a game where offensive production is the main goal, the Matt Kemp’s success at the plate is going to be a huge advantage, especially since the Dodgers have never faced Velasquez before.

Jason’s pick — Current streak 1: Max Muncy

Max Muncy has been swinging a fairly hot bat and has produced great at-bats on a consistent basis. Even when he is not getting hits, Muncy is working the counts and raising the pitch count of the opposing pitcher.

With a right-handed pitcher on the mound, Muncy will likely hit in the two-hole and play first base, as he has the last few weeks.

Next: Players of the Week, May 25

And while he may not come up with another home run like he did on Sunday, Muncy will continue his success with another two-hit game.
