Los Angeles Chargers: Three reasons why Philip Rivers can win MVP
By Jason Reed
Philip Rivers has been a great quarterback for the Los Angeles Chargers for 12 seasons. Could year 13 be the year Rivers finally wins an MVP award?
Philip Rivers should go down as one of the best quarterbacks to ever do it but he is often outshined by his elite class of quarterbacks that played at the same time as him.
Whether it is Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Ben Roethlisberger, Matt Ryan or the new crop of Carson Wentz and Jared Goff, Philip Rivers rarely gets the love and recognition he deserves.
Rivers has earned the title of the best quarterback in Chargers history and should go down as a top-10 quarterback all-time. Right now, Rivers is ninth all-time in passing yards. Four active players are ahead of Rivers, and depending on how much longer he plays, he can move up to sixth or seventh all-time.
Rivers is also sixth all-time in passing touchdowns. He has never missed a game since being named the Chargers’ starting quarterback in 2006. Even though he got a two-year late start, Rivers is still compiling all-time numbers.
Yet those outside of LA still forget about Rivers and what he has given to the league. Winning an MVP award would finally get Rivers in the mainstream news and finally get people to recognize him as one of the best quarterbacks of all-time.
Here are three reasons why winning the MVP in 2018 is completely reasonable for Philip Rivers.
