1. The Los Angeles Chargers have an elite receiving corps

It is obviously going to be easier to put up MVP-like numbers if you have a proper supporting cast around you. Luckily for Philip Rivers, he has one of the best receiving corps in football and has a noticeably better receiving corps than any of the other potential MVP candidates in 2018.

Tom Brady and the New England Patriots will have to figure something out now that Brandin Cooks is a Ram and Danny Amendola is a Dolphin. Sure, Julian Edelman is returning and the Pats still have Gronk but it still won’t be as easy for Brady and company.

The Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers have a pretty bad receiving corps, especially with Jordy Nelson now on the Raiders. And while Rodgers does have a new weapon in Jimmy Graham, they tried the veteran tight end move last year with Martellus Bennett. That did not work. Rodgers will still find a way to put up MVP-like numbers, though.

Ben Roethlisberger does have Antonio Brown and friends, however, the Steelers would be better suited to go with a run-first offense behind Le’Veon Bell. Thus, while Big Ben will be solid, his numbers may take a hit.

Carson Wentz, Matt Ryan and Jared Goff are really the only two MVP-caliber quarterbacks with a good enough receiving corps to challenge the Los Angeles Chargers. And even then, the group of Keenan Allen, Tyrell Williams, Travis Benjamin and Mike Williams far outshines those teams.
