Los Angeles Dodgers Players of the Week: Return of the Matt

4. Max Muncy

Weekly stats: .286 AVG, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 4 R, 2 BB
Max Muncy is one of two hitters included on our Dodgers players of the week series this week and he earned his first inclusion on this series to date. While Muncy did not have an eye-popping stat line, he was one of few consistent bats for the Dodgers this week.
Muncy consistently worked pitchers deep into counts and gave the Dodgers a good at-bat every time, even in the six strikeouts he has. Typically, managers want someone that can take a pitcher’s pitch count to town early in the lineup and can get as many looks as possible to set the narrative for the rest of the game.
Muncy did just that, allowing himself and his teammates an extended look at opposing pitchers while producing himself as well.
Muncy’s biggest hit came in the Dodgers’ 6-1 win over the San Diego Padres. Entering the eighth inning, the Dodgers had just a 2-1 lead with the heart of the Padres’ order coming to the plate. That was until Muncy delivered a two-run home run that sparked a four-run inning to give the Dodgers enough cushion to coast to the win.
Muncy may not be the most polarizing player or produce the most jaw-dropping numbers. However, he has proven to be a great asset at the top of the order, although he is no Corey Seager.
