1. SG J.J. Redick

With no starting shooting guard currently on the roster, veteran guard J.J. Redick may become an interesting free agent for the Los Angeles Lakers’ front office. Redick has playoff experience on multiple teams and proved to be a great veteran presence on the Philadelphia 76ers last season.

Redick can still produce at a high level and could fill the exact same role on the Lakers that he had with the 76ers. The Lakers’ front office can be comfortable with tasking Redick in this role as he is familiar with it. He would not be a long-term signing, instead, would likely be inked to a one or two-year deal.

While Redick was valuable to the Philadelphia 76ers last season, it would not be surprising for the two teams to part ways with each other. With the 76ers entangled in a potential LeBron James situation, the front office is going to need as much cap space as possible. Redick, who was paid $23 million last year, does not fit that cap budget.

And that is the main reason why the Los Angeles Lakers should avoid Redick. While he likely will not make that much money here in 2018, many teams will be willing to open their pocketbooks and pay Redick a hefty fee.

If he takes a pay cut, then sure, sign him. However, the Lakers need to stop signing guys to huge one-year deals and try to piece together a solid unit that can grow together. While Redick may not be brought in for that purpose, he would keep the Lakers from signing other players.
