3. Gerald Green

Gerald Green is in a similar boat as Marco Belinelli. While Green did not serve as a veteran presence for a young team, he did play for a team that is heavily rumored in the LeBron James sweepstakes.

The Houston Rockets are also in the mix for LeBron and it is quite unclear how the team is going to pull it off with Chris Paul‘s free agent status to deal with as well. What is clear is the Rockets are not going to be able to take up any additional salary cap obligations that they do not need. Thus, Gerald Green seems long gone.

The 32-year-old veteran could make the Los Angeles Lakers the ninth NBA team he has played for in his career. For both sides, a one-year deal makes sense as it allows the Lakers to remain flexible and allows Green to continue his trend of bouncing from contender to contender.

Although he is talented, Green would almost undoubtedly come off the bench as he has never really held a prominent starting role in his career. Of his 585 games played, Green has started just 118.

Green is most valuable off the bench and could provide the Lakers a three-point spark plug to either change the tide of the game or continue a hot streak. This role has become part of the contending equation in today’s NBA and is something the Lakers currently lack.
