3. San Antonio Spurs

If any coach is going to get the most out of Isaiah Thomas, other than Brad Stevens in Boston, it is going to be Gregg Popovich.

Popovich is undoubtedly the best coach of our generation and may go down as the best NBA coach of all-time. If he is not the best all-time, he is easily top three. His impact on the game, how it is played and how he has engineered a Spurs’ team for consistent greatness is something never seen in today’s NBA.

The Spurs have their drama, though, especially this offseason. If the Spurs do indeed need to deal Kawhi Leonard, it is going to leave the team in a peculiar state. While common wisdom would say it is time for rebuilding, the Spurs seemingly never rebuild and would somehow make it work.

Another veteran piece the Spurs could lose this summer is Tony Parker, who is set to be an unrestricted free agent. If Parker does return to the NBA it likely will be with the Spurs. However, the team cannot rely on Patty Mills to be the lone reliable point guard.

Plus, with Danny Green‘s player option, the Spurs may also need scoring on the outside. Relying on LaMarcus Aldridge and Pau Gasol to be the heart and soul of the offense is a recipe for disaster. What the Spurs need is a catch and shoot specialist as well as someone that can engineer the pick and roll.

Thomas is just that and probably would play his best on the Spurs. Pop would undoubtedly be putting him in positions to thrive.
