Los Angeles Lakers: Updated best fits for Isaiah Thomas this summer
By Jason Reed
2. Utah Jazz
The Utah Jazz are in a very promising position. By landing one of the best sleeper picks this decade in Donovan Mitchell, the Jazz went from a potential rebuilding state without Gordon Hayward into arguably a better position than the team was in with Hayward. Now, with some cap space room, the Jazz should be looking to add as many pieces as possible for a title run.
The only problem is that Salt Lake City is not necessarily a great free agent destination. And while the talent on the team would be very intriguing, the idea of someone like LeBron James or Paul George going to the Utah Jazz seems slim to none. Sorry, Utah, superstars just favor big names.
However, someone who may be out of options may want to come to the Jazz with the potential of something special. That someone could be Isaiah Thomas, who may serve as a sixth-man behind Ricky Rubio in his first year, but could create a long-lasting great backcourt with Mitchell.
The scoring intensity, assuming Thomas gets close to his old ways, would be near unstoppable. Having both Mitchell and a healthy Thomas in the backcourt may be a top-three backcourt in the league.
Thomas thrived in Boston because the Celtics were sound defensively and were able to hide the holes in Thomas’ game. In Utah, it can be a very similar situation. With the likes of Rudy Gobert, and Derrick Favors if he re-signs, the Jazz with Isaiah Thomas truly could be special.
