The ten best teams in Los Angeles Dodgers history
By Jason Reed
8. 1959: 88-68 (Won World Series)
The 1959 Los Angeles Dodgers are the team with the lowest winning percentage to win the World Series and the team with the lowest winning percentage on this list. However, the pure talent on this team as well the first place finish (something the 1981 Dodgers did not have) gives them the eighth spot on this list.
This team was a young version of promising years to come for the Dodgers and arguably was the start of the best era in Dodgers history. The staff included a young Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale. Although neither were putting together their Hall of Fame numbers yet, they obviously represented something much bigger.
Offensively, six of the eight starting position players hit over .270. Roger Craig also have the Dodgers a 2.06 ERA in the pitching rotation. The most notable players from that season were:
- Duke Snider
- Wally Moon
- Norm Larker
- Charlie Neal
- Jim Gilliam
- Gil Hodges
- Don Drysdale
- Sandy Koufax
- Roger Craig
The 1959 Dodgers finished two games ahead of the Milwaukee Braves in the National League and defeated the Chicago White Sox in six games to win the 1959 World Series.
