The ten best teams in Los Angeles Dodgers history

5. 1988: 94-67 (Won World Series)

In a year that has been so improbable, the impossible has happened! 

The greatest moment in Los Angeles Dodgers history and one of the best moments in any major American sport happened in the 1988 World Series. Injured NL MVP Kirk Gibson limped to the plate for a pinch-hit appearance against the lights out Dennis Eckersley in game one. An Athletics’ win would have given them plenty of momentum, as they were the favorites.

Gibson then gave Vin Scully his most infamous call and gave Dodger fan in attendance something to remember for the rest of their lives. Gibson sent a ball into the right-field pavilion to give the Dodgers the 5-4 win which eventually led to the Dodgers winning the series in five games.

This still stands as the last time the Los Angeles Dodgers won the World Series and up until last season was the last time the team even made it to the Fall Classic.

The Dodgers were certainly good that season and were playoff-caliber no doubt. However, they never were the juggernaut that they were in other years. Instead, it was the Athletics and New York Mets who were the powerhouses of the league.
