3. 1965: 97-65 (Won World Series)
There have been three World Series-winning teams already mentioned on this list. The final three teams on this list are the remaining World Series-winning teams with 1965 clocking in with the bronze medal.
1965 was the third successful year of the young core that consisted of both Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale that we mentioned first blossomed in 1959. However, unlike the 1959 counterpart, it was Koufax and Drysdale that carried the Dodgers to the World Series.
Koufax was the Cy Young award winner and finished second place in MVP voting behind Willie Mays. Koufax was 26-8 in 1965 with a 2.04 ERA and 382 strikeouts in 335.2 innings pitched. He regularly pitched on just three days rest, something that would never happen in today’s MLB.
Drysdale was an all-star that season and finished fifth in MVP voting. The right-handed pitcher was 23-12 with a 2.77 ERA and 210 strikeouts in 308.1 innings.
