3. Kansas City Chiefs

  • Quarterback depth chart: Patrick Mahomes II, Chad Henne, Matt McGloin

The Kansas City Chiefs are also undergoing a change under center as second-year quarterback Patrick Mahomes II will be taking over for Alex Smith, who is replacing Kirk Cousins in Washington.

Isn’t it interesting how the quarterback carousel this offseason all comes back to the AFC West? Smith was brought in to replace Cousins, who was tied to the Broncos, who went to the Vikings, who then let their quarterback Case Keenum walk to the Broncos.

Anyways, for what it is worth, Mahomes may be fine under center for the first time as a starter and should give the Chiefs a fairly decent chance at making the postseason. Having Kareem Hunt to hand-off to definitely helps take pressure off and having Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill and Sammy Watkins as targets are promising.

Mahomes played pretty decent in week 17 against the Broncos last season and has had a year to get familiar with the offense and learn under Smith. All signs are pointing to a decent sophomore year out of Mahomes.

However, what exactly we are getting out of Mahomes is still unclear. Because of that, it is hard to rank him ahead of any of the established quarterbacks in the division.

While the team has the potential to move up to number two, or even number one, right now the Chiefs have the third best quarterbacks in the AFC West. Still solid, though.
