Los Angeles Lakers: Why Lonzo Ball is a great fit alongside LeBron James
By Jason Reed
With LeBron James joining the Los Angeles Lakers, many have begun to question Lonzo Ball’s place on the team. Despite what you may hear, he is a great fit alongside James.
The Los Angeles Lakers made the biggest move in franchise history by signing superstar LeBron James to a four-year, $154 million contract on the first day of free agency. With James now officially a Laker, something that has been speculated for the past year, many expect more stones to fall in the coming months as well as next offseason.
One of those stones is a potential Lonzo Ball trade, which has picked up steam as of late. Reports emerged that Ball was injured, but would be ready for training camp next season. This reportedly got leaked out of Ball’s camp to keep the Lakers from trading the young point guard.
Ball is obviously excited to play alongside James and rightfully so, however, many people are not liking the fit between Ball and James.
First and foremost, there is Lonzo’s father, LaVar, who is known for saying outrageous things. While I personally do not see there being any real issue between James and LaVar, the possibility of LaVar making James mad could worry the Lakers’ brass. Keyword: could.
Second of all, Ball’s playstyle seemingly does not fit alongside James. Ball is a ball distributing guard that can score at the cup but struggled with his jump shot in year one. Historically, James has thrived more with a scoring guard to rely on late in games. Think of Dwayne Wade and Kyrie Irving.
However, despite how much Ball may be picked apart by the NBA media, he is actually a pretty good fit alongside James. Here is why.
