4. Play the game aggressively

We talked earlier about how the Chargers lost to the Jaguars because of the passive coaching of head coach Anthony Lynn. And while Lynn did have a winning record in his first season as head coach, there were times that the head coach would call the game safely instead of taking risks.

Look at the Philadelphia Eagles and head coach Doug Pederson. The Eagles were the most aggressive team in football last season and it paid huge dividends. Of course, it helps to be aggressive when you have that much talent, but there is no reason why the Chargers cannot take a page from the Eagles’ book.

The Chargers have a ton of talent and a veteran quarterback in Philip Rivers that can lead the team to great things. When the Chargers did show this aggression last season and put their foot to the gas the team far outplayed the opposition. That is why when the Chargers won they often won big.

However, when they tried to play conservative or when Lynn tried to outcoach Bill Belichick the team ended up losing games. Playing passive doesn’t always work. The Chargers learned that last season.

Now, the Chargers should not be dumb in their decision-making but Lynn should trust his talented offense and great defense more than the typical head coach would. If he does, I guarantee the results will follow.
