Point guard:

  • Lonzo Ball (26 minutes), Rajon Rondo (22 minutes)

The point guard position is one of the most interesting for the Los Angeles Lakers next season and actually has quite a good outlook. While some fans naturally do not like Lonzo Ball and others hate the signing of Rajon Rondo, the two mesh together perfectly and give the Lakers a consistent look in both the starting and second unit.

In many ways, Lonzo Ball is a younger Rajon Rondo. He is a great distributor and rebounder for a point guard as well as a sneaky good defender. Ball probably has a better jump shot when he is actually hitting and Rondo is probably better at finishing at the rim.

Not only will Rondo be challenging Ball for the starting job and thus pushing him to work harder, he is going to serve as the perfect mentor for Ball. Having a veteran presence that is so similar in play style is a huge thing that often gets overlooked in the NBA. Ball has perhaps the best person, suited to him, to learn under.

Both Ball and Rondo are not going to have the prettiest stat lines; due to the fact that NBA fans often judge a player’s efficiency by points scored.

However, both Ball and Rondo are going to have a very similar effect on running the offense as well as contributing on the glass and on the defensive side of the ball. It is going to be fun to watch them continuously one-up each other.
