Shooting guard:

Prior to the offseason, the shooting guard position was the thinnest on the roster and had the most questions to be answered. Josh Hart was the only shooting guard on the roster and even he fits more of a combo guard off the bench rather than a true starting shooting guard.

However, by bringing back Caldwell-Pope as well as drafting Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk, the Los Angeles Lakers have some decent depth at the position. Veteran Lance Stephenson could theoretically also see time at the two guard if the Lakers are thinly manned, but to begin the year, Stephenson will likely play the three.

Caldwell-Pope and Hart should receive similar amounts of minutes due to what they bring to the table. Hart may be the better overall player, but Caldwell-Pope possesses the three and D play style that fits nicely with LeBron James.

The Lakers then could utilize Hart as the second-best scorer off the bench behind Kyle Kuzma, giving the Lakers one of the best benches in basketball in that regard.

As for Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk, the second-round pick has to prove himself before getting significant minutes. However, he should see at least some playing time early in the year as a sharpshooter to bring in at the end of the first and third quarter.
