The Los Angeles Lakers are the most repped team in hip-hop
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the most prestigious and historic teams in all of sports. Because of that, Lakeshow is the most repped NBA team in hip-hop.
Everyone knows about the Los Angeles Lakers. Basketball fans in the states, of course, know about the Lakers. Worldwide, the Lakers are a phenomenon, whether it is because of Kobe Bryant or the new signing of the King, LeBron James.
Although the Lakers went through the toughest stretch in franchise history the last half-decade, the team was still one of the most reputable in the league. With 16 NBA titles, only the Boston Celtics have been more successful and they can thank Bill Russell for that one.
With the addition of LeBron James, the Los Angeles Lakers look to reclaim the NBA throne from the Golden State Warriors. While it may take another year or two, the Lakers are poised to return to the title-winning ways.
And while the team has not been winning titles, they are still the most repped team in the music genre that has been closest tied to the NBA, hip-hop.
The team over at Fanatics analyzed over 300 different hip-hop music videos to try to see what sports teams are the most repped. The Los Angeles Lakers topped the list; the full study results can be found here.
While the MLB ultimately trumped the NBA due to artists often wearing baseball caps, the NBA far outweighed the MLB in the jersey category. 49.2 percent of jerseys seen in these analyzed hip-hop videos were those of NBA teams. Of those 49.2 percent, 18.9 percent were the Los Angeles Lakers.
By doing some quick math, we can conclude that just under 10 percent of all the hip-hop music videos that Fanatics analyzed had someone repping a Lakers jersey. For every ten hip-hop videos, you watch you should see at least one Lakers jersey.
Of course, the prestigious history of the Lakers and the vast amount of superstars that have played in LA contributes to this. With LeBron James now joining the mix, the Lakers should be able to gain more ground on the Chicago Bulls, who were the second-most featured NBA team with 17.0 percent; of course, because of Michael Jordan.
It also helps that the Lakers play in the second-largest city in the United States, Los Angeles, which is arguably the media capital of the world.
However, you would think the Los Angeles Clippers would be higher on the list as the team is the 10th-most repped team with just 3.8 percent.
