Los Angeles Dodgers: Why a Manny Machado trade should not happen
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Dodgers are one of few frontrunners to land Manny Machado at the trade deadline. Although appealing, the Dodgers should not trade for Machado.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have been on fire after starting the season in the worst way possible and currently find themselves in sole possession of first place.
Even though the Dodgers are in first place and looking for the team’s sixth-straight NL West Championship, there are some concerns whether or not the Dodgers can keep up with the best teams in the league come October.
The offense has been good, when they are swinging good, but all too susceptible to a cold streak that could last two or three games. That will not win you a series in October.
The pitching has been pleasantly surprising but is not a surefire thing. Clayton Kershaw has been battling injury, Ross Stripling has never started a playoff game, Walker Buehler is on an innings cap and who knows if Rich Hill, Kenta Maeda or Hyun-Jin Ryu will be healthy at that specific time.
Because of these question marks, the Los Angeles Dodgers have been heavily tied to perhaps one of the best rental trade options of the last five seasons — Manny Machado.
And while the idea of trading for Machado is definitely appealing and attractive, there is more than meets the eye when it comes to this deal. Thus, here are three reasons why the Los Angeles Dodgers should ultimately not trade for Machado.
