The case for the Los Angeles Angels to be sellers:

It is a hard reality for Angels’ fans to accept, especially since the team should be in the playoffs every single season with Mike Trout in the middle of the order. While the Angels should not pull the trigger on trading Trout anytime soon, it would not be an idea to part ways with some expendable pieces this deadline to, hopefully, build towards a better team in the coming years.

Let’s face it, even if the Angels make a miraculous come back to the postseason, the chances of the team defeating the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Houston Astros or Cleveland Indians in a five or seven-game series is slim. The gap between the Angels and those teams are simply too large.

With Zack Cozart out the rest of the year and Shohei Ohtani likely not pitching the rest of the year, it is time for the Angels to get an overvalued return for someone like Skaggs or Heaney. While the team immediately would be worse without them, in the long-term, it is the right move to make.

Plus, this is the only real direction the Angels can go. If they remain constant they are going to miss the playoffs, bring the exact same team into next year and hope they can stay healthy and everyone can play better.

If they go the route of buying, they would part ways with the decent farm system that they just started to redevelop. For a while, the Angels had the worst farm in baseball. Now the organization has a few standout prospects. Trading them now would not make sense, at all.

Thus, the Angels have to go the route of selling. While the team should not go full-blown yard sale on the trade deadline, the Halos should make some moves to create a better tomorrow that can keep Trout around.
