Dodgers Beat the Streak: Rubber match in Milwaukee
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Dodgers are treating West Coast fans to a morning contest as the team looks to take the rubber match in a Sunday matinee in Milwaukee.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are no longer undefeated with Manny Machado. After winning the first game back from the All-Star Break, some defensive blunders and a lack of situational hitting led to the Dodgers losing, 2-4.
To be fair to the Dodger hitters, the team did collect 10 hits on the night. However, it was the Brewers pitching staff, in particular, the bullpen, that limited the Dodgers to just 10 hits.
Clayton Kershaw did as much as he could but still collected his fifth loss of the season. Kershaw threw six innings allowing seven hits and just a single earned run with five strikeouts.
Three of the Brew Crew’s four runs were unearned, all stemming from the Dodgers’ three errors on the night.
With two outs in the sixth inning, third baseman Max Muncy let a chopper get through the infield and the eventual winning run crossed the plate. Keon Broxton tripled the next at-bat to make it 4-2. Kershaw did not look too happy.
As for our Dodgers Beat the Streak, though, we actually had a good night. Both of our selections, Yasmani Grandal and Manny Machado, got a base hit. Not a bad day in the office, at least as far as we are concerned.
Sarah’s pick — Current streak 3: Yasmani Grandal
My pick for today is Yasmani Grandal. As a switch-hitter, Grandal is one of the best advantages the Dodgers have. Though he hasn’t been nearly as hot as he was during the first two months of the season, he is still contributing to this team.
Today the team faces Brewers southpaw Brent Suter. So far, he’s been good but not great, boasting a 4.39 ERA on the year. (Fun fact; Suter attended Harvard University before being drafted in 2012.)
The Dodgers may not have been able to provide Kershaw with the run support last night, but with Wood on the mound today, it could be a totally different story.
Jason’s pick — Current streak 1: Max Muncy
I am going to go with the player that had the biggest blunder in Saturday’s game in Max Muncy. Now, this is kind of risky as there is a chance that Dave Roberts gives Muncy a day off and brings back the healing Justin Turner.
However, if he is in the lineup, which I give about a 75 percent chance of happening, he will be looking to repay his team for the blunder that he had the game prior.
With that being said, I think we are going to see the first home run from Muncy since the break early in the game. In a perfect world, Machado can be on base for Muncy to deliver the shot in the first inning.

Even if a home run does not come, though, Muncy is due for a base hit in Sunday’s rubber match.
