Dodgers Beat the Streak July 24: No love for Aaron Nola
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Dodgers face the Philadelphia Phillies ace, Aaron Nola, in a game that could win the Dodgers the series and further advance the sweep.
The Los Angeles Dodgers hit Zach Eflin pretty good on Monday and almost blew it by blowing the lead and the game. However, the Dodgers tied the game before scoring two more runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Philadelphia Phillies 7-6.
Ross Stripling looked like his usual dominant self until the bottom of the fifth inning. Stripling allowed two home runs. The first home run turned a 4-1 game into a tied game while the second home run was enough to squander the team’s lead.
However, the bats picked up Stripling, who is usually picking up the offense with a dominant performance on the rubber.
The bats performing well is a great sign for our Dodgers Beat the Streak hitting streaks. Not only is it extending our streaks now, it is also increasing the chances of us being successful in future picks.
On Monday night, I went with Matt Kemp, who continued his hot hitting by going 2-4 with an RBI. That RBI, which at the time acted as insurance. practically decided the game for the Dodgers.
Sarah went with Joc Pederson, who also went 2-4 and slugged one of four Dodger home runs on the night.
Sarah’s pick — Current streak 4: Max Muncy
My pick for today is Max Muncy. I’m picking him because he has been one of the hottest hitters on the team over the past few months. It sure is a good thing, because today the Dodgers face the Phillies’ ace, Aaron Nola.
Nola has been super elite all season, boasting a 12-3 record and a 2.30 ERA. He doesn’t give up too many home runs, something the Dodgers have been hitting a lot of. In order to beat a strong starter like Nola, the Dodgers need to use every offensive advantage they have.
Jason’s pick — Current streak 3: Manny Machado
I am finally doing it. I refused to pick Manny Machado before because I did not want to jinx him. However, he is clearly the most well-rounded hitter on the Dodgers, which bodes well for my hitting streak.
Making a good selection while facing such as great starter like Aaron Nola is a tough business. I wanted to go with left-handed hitter Alex Verdugo. However, Nola could expose his inexperience. He is that good.

Thus, I am going with the team’s newest trade acquisition to get at least one base hit. Machado has been good for LA thus far, let’s keep it rolling.
