Dodgers Beat the Streak: A familiar face on the mound
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Dodgers look to respond from a loss to the Milwaukee Brewers with a win on Tuesday. In the team’s way is a familiar face, Wade Miley.
The Los Angeles Dodgers were unable to get anything cooking offensively and a three-run home run off the bat of Eric Thames proved to be quite the knockout punch. The Dodgers dropped the contest, 5-2.
However, there were positives from the game as Manny Machado hit a home run in his first game at Dodger Stadium as a member of the Dodgers. That puts Machado’s count up to two home runs as a Dodger and he is sure to get some more help shortly.
The Dodgers landed former all-star second baseman Brian Dozier from the Minnesota Twins just before the MLB Trade Deadline. Although Dozier is having a down season, he is undoubtedly an upgrade from Logan Forsythe and could find better success with better hitters around him.
Dozier obviously will not play tonight, however, he will probably be set to join the team by Wednesday’s game.
We still need to make our selections for players that will be playing on Tuesday night. Last night was the first night in what seems like forever that we both correctly guessed who would get a base hit.
We both picked Manny Machado, who obviously had his first home run as a Dodger at his home park. However, my streak is still pretty small while Sarah is starting to build something special.
Sarah’s pick — Current streak 5: Yasmani Grandal
My pick for tonight is Yasmani Grandal. Not only has Grandal hit a homer off of tonight’s starter for the Brewers, Wade Miley, but he has been great since the All-Star Break. Grandal has hit 4 homers over the past 7 games and has driven in 6.
Catching was a major question mark for the Dodgers going into this season. Austin Barnes earned his spot on the postseason roster last season and I think we all expected the regular season to be a similar story but Grandal has been absolutely dominating. His talent as a switch hitter has been so, so valuable to the Dodgers thus far and will continue to be as long as he wears the uniform.
Jason’s pick — Current streak 1: Yasiel Puig
The Los Angeles Dodgers saw Wade Miley pretty often when he was a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks and have hit him fairly well. Six different Dodgers have at least 10 at-bats against Miley in their career.
Tonight, I am going with one of the few players that have been a part of every postseason team the last five seasons, Yasiel Puig. Puig has 15 at-bats against Miley in his career and has five hits in those at-bats. He has also worked six walks against the southpaw.
Yasiel Puig is going to attack Miley early and is going to jump on something he likes in his first at-bat in the second inning. Hopefully, he can extend my streak to two and end my string of bad luck.
