SS John Johnson — Rating: 85

You thought this article was just going to be about players that are rated to low, didn’t you? That is not that case, as an 85 rating seems a bit too high for Rams’ safety John Johnson.

To be fair, the Madden team seemed to really give strong safeties a high rating. The highest rated strong safety is Eric Berry, who is a 96 overall. In between Berry and Johnson are 10 other strong safeties.

Thus, by this logic, Johnson is the 12th-best strong safety in the league, the same rating as Andrew Sendejo of the Minnesota Vikings and a rating above Moran Burnett of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

And while Johnson did have a good rookie year, recording 71 total tackles and accumulating an Approximate Value of five, per Pro-Football-Reference, he simply does not deserve to be rated this high compared to his peers.

This may be a bit of the Rams being hyped up entering the season, but Johnson has not done enough to be rated higher than Burnett, Tony Jefferson, Patrick Chung or Barry Church.

Heck, Johnson only started 11 games last season for the Rams. You would think someone that was not a year-long starter would get a lower rating.

What the rating should be: 82
