The Los Angeles Dodgers are losers of five straight games and it is going to take a big night from the 2-3 hitters to turn the tide in LA.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are in one of the worst spells of the season, losing five straight games against the Colorado Rockies and the San Francisco Giants.

For the most part, the bullpen can be blamed. Three different leads have been blown and two tied games in the ninth inning turned into one-run Dodger losses. Without Kenley Jansen, this bullpen is undergoing an identity crisis.

The Dodgers need to turn the tide quick before the team falls too behind in the NL West race. Not only are standings important, the Dodgers need to gain much-needed momentum as October approaches.

Even if the Dodgers scrap their way to the playoffs, the way this team is playing it is hard to imagine beating any other playoff team in a series. Of course, when the team gets hot it is one of the best in baseball. But recently, they look mediocre at best.

The offense deserves some of the blame as well as the bats have been putting the bullpen in continues tight situations. Eventually, leads are going to be blown in these tight games. It does not help that the Dodgers have scored four or fewer runs in each loss.

Overall, the month of August has not been good for the team or for our Los Angeles Dodgers Beat the Streak hitting streak. In what has become a trend in this series, both of our streaks are at zero as neither of our selections recorded a hit last night.

Sarah’s pick — Current Streak 0: Manny Machado

My pick for today is Manny Machado. Today’s matchup is an interesting one, as the Dodgers will face Derek Holland who, up until this year, pitched in the American League.

Machado has faced Holland 15 times, the most of any current Dodger, and is batting .333 against him. The Dodgers need to get something started with the offense tonight, and Machado could be the one to do it.

Jason’s pick — Current Streak 0: Justin Turner

Almost the entire Dodger offense has been ice cold this month with a few standouts here and there. One of the few exceptions is Justin Turner, who is hitting .436 in the month.

The Dodgers need to start piling up the wins if the team wants to avoid the dreaded August cold spell that hit the team last year. Last year, though, the Dodgers had the luxury of a massive lead in the division. This year, the Dodgers are behind in the race and have been for the majority of the season.

Justin Turner is the leader of this offense and needs to reel his guys out of this mess before it turns into a disaster.
