The bottom tier:

To be fair, even the Los Angeles Chargers’ worst positions are not among the worst in the league. However, when doing these rankings, we had to separate into different tiers and these were the three obvious position sets that deserved to be in the bottom.

10. Kickers and punters

The position group that ultimately kept the Los Angeles Chargers out of the postseason last season deserves to be the worst position on the roster. While the kicking was bad, though, punter Drew Kaser did his best — he just gets lumped into this group.

The Chargers did make improvements to the kicking group and added Caleb Sturgis and Roberto Aguayo to battle it out for the job. Until either one of them can be a proven, consistent option at making field goals, we have to keep them last on the list.

9. Tight end

This position group would be much better if Hunter Henry was healthy. With Henry most likely missing the entire season due to a torn ACL, the Chargers are left in a scramble at tight end. Virgil Green is the new starting tight end after being signed in the offseason to serve as the second tight end.

Signing Antonio Gates would somewhat help this issue, however, the Chargers seem to be sticking to their guns of not re-signing the veteran tight end.

8. Linebackers

The linebacker core does have potential to be a bright spot on the Chargers defense and surprise many fans this season. However, it was also the linebacker core that made the Chargers so bad against the run last season.

A healthy Denzel Perryman will be huge and the addition of Nwosu Uchenna to the outside certainly does help. However, the linebackers still belong in our bottom tier.
