The Los Angeles Dodgers are in the midst of an intense division battle and could use the help of some surprise September call-ups.

Last season, the Los Angeles Dodgers went ice cold at the end of August and beginning of September that left some fans questioning how the team would do in the postseason. That ice-cold streak had no big implications for the Dodgers, who led the NL West by 19 games at this point last season.

This season, the Dodgers obviously do not have that same luxury as the team is in third place in the NL West and trails the Arizona Diamondbacks by 2.5 games. Being in third place is certainly alarming on the surface, however, the Dodgers can easily make up 2.5 games with seven games remaining against the Diamondbacks.

Like every team, the Dodgers are going to get some added help with the minor league season coming to an end and the ability to expand the roster to 40 players. This is often the time for teams to bring up top prospects but can also have playoff roster implications.

Everyone knows the big-name September call-ups for the Dodgers. Alex Verdugo and Andrew Toles headline that group and will have the biggest impact on the team.

However, the Dodgers could also add a new name to the 40-man roster to be a surprise September call-up. Here are three surprise September call-ups on our radar that could have a big role in pushing the Dodgers to the postseason.

And no, we are not considering Julio Urias, who is rehabbing with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, as a surprise call-up.
