Los Angeles Dodgers: Welcoming the Mets to town
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Dodgers are set to host the New York Mets in a three-game series after a winning a huge four-game series against the Diamondbacks.
The Los Angeles Dodgers walked away with a huge win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday that not only won the series for the Dodgers but put the team in sole possession of first place.
Matt Kemp‘s walk-off double finished off what was a huge series for the Dodgers. Los Angeles won three straight games after trailing in the later innings. If it was not one mistake in pitch location by Rich Hill, the Dodgers would have swept the Diamondbacks.
Regardless, those wins were huge for the Dodgers, who really needed to win this series to gain some momentum as the team heads into September. Luckily, the month is easier than August for the Dodgers.
Following the Arizona series, the Dodgers get underway in September against the New York Mets, who are the third-worst team in the National League. The Dodgers do have to face Jacob DeGrom in the series, however, the team has already beaten him in New York and is 3-0 against the Mets this season.
DeGrom will be facing the Dodgers on Monday, which makes our Los Angeles Dodgers Beat the Streak selection a bit tricky. However, the good thing is we are both at zero, so there really is not much pressure there.
Sarah’s pick — Current streak 0: Chase Utley
Today the Dodgers begin a series against the team from Queens, so my pick for tonight is a guy who has consistently hit well against the New York Mets; Chase Utley.
Utley hasn’t gotten consistent ABs all season long but I have a feeling he’ll get an AB or two in this series, his last against the Mets. It feels like every time Utley faces the Mets he gets a bit, so that’s what I am predicting tonight.
Jason’s pick — Current streak 0: Max Muncy
Max Muncy has been pretty cold since the All-Star Break and is just starting to pick it up again with sporadic home runs here and there. Still, even though that is a bad sign for my selection, I am going with Muncy against DeGrom.
Muncy faced DeGrom a total of three times in their June 23 encounter, to which Muncy walked, grounded out and hit a solo home run in the first inning.
That sample size is very, very small but Muncy seemed to see DeGrom well and is the perfect guy to turnaround a heater down the right-field line and just into the seats. It is not the safest pick I can make but I am confident regardless.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are going to need all hands on deck to get some runs off Jacob DeGrom, including Max Muncy.
