2. Klay Thompson fits the Los Angeles Lakers’ roster needs

Signing another forward simply does not make a ton of sense when considering what the Los Angeles Lakers currently have on the roster. While signing a center would be a smart move, signing a shooting guard is also going to be a need for the Lakers.

Heading into next season the Lakers are going to have the very promising trio of LeBron James, Brandon Ingram and Kyle Kuzma all at forward next season. This list could also include Moritz Wagner if the team uses him as a stretch four opposed to a center.

Meanwhile, the Lakers are just going to have Josh Hart and Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk at the shooting guard position. Both guys are good in their respective roles and both have a ton of promise but neither seem like a great option to start on an NBA Finals winning team.

The Lakers are all set at point guard with Lonzo Ball and whoever else the team brings in and can find another solution on the market at center with the slew of options that hit the open market every offseason.

Meanwhile, the shooting guard pool is fairly thin. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is okay won’t have a role on this team with Hart emerging as the better second shooting guard and we already discussed why Thompson would be a better fit than someone else like Jimmy Butler.
