2018 NBA Draft selections

  • Date: June 21, 2018

Ok, for this year’s draft picks, we obviously do not know how they are going to perform on the Los Angeles Lakers. We can only assume how big of a role these rookies will have and what they will produce in their respective rookie seasons.

Thus, we have to grade these selections based on how the pick fit the team. It will not be based on said player’s talent.

Moritz Wagner, 25th overall — C+

The Los Angeles Lakers could have done better with the 25th overall pick but the team could have also done worse.

Moritz Wagner actually has a relatively high ceiling as a stretch four with added size in the league. However, what knocks him down to a C+ is the lack of rebounding and interior defending Wagner has. While he can do those things, those were two areas the Lakers needed to target in the draft.

Isaac Bonga, 39th overall — C

This was a low-risk, high reward pick as Isaac Bonga truly is someone who could come out of nowhere and shock the league and be a solid NBA player. However, for now, Bonga is not going to have a role on the Lakers and will continue to be a promising piece to hold onto.

Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk, 47th overall — B+

I really like the addition of Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk to the Los Angeles Lakers, if he even gets playing time. Mykhailiuk is the definition of a sharpshooter and could be a huge shooter off the bench that can come in and knock down 2-3 three-point shots a game.

The Lakers definitely need as much shooting as they could get and did so with both Mykhailiuk and Wagner. While that shooting will be great for Mykhailiuk, though, the Lakers still could have targeted different areas of need with the 25th overall pick.
