The possibility of Anthony Davis joining the Los Angeles Lakers at one point now has a sense of reality. However, the Lakers would have work to do to add Davis.

The Los Angeles Lakers are in the pursuit of a second superstar to join LeBron James to cement the team as an NBA Title favorite. After buying out Luol Deng, the Lakers now have enough salary cap space to bring in a superstar next summer; for many, the frontrunner has become Klay Thompson, who is an unrestricted free agent next summer.

Thompson is a great fit for the Los Angeles Lakers and an even better fit alongside LeBron James. Out of the stars that will be available next summer, Thompson is definitely the best fit for the Lakers.

However, the possibility of adding a third superstar to the mix has emerged and would give the Lakers a big three that arguably would be better than the Warriors big three.

The possibility of adding Anthony Davis to the mix has, at least, become somewhat shifted from a hypothetical to a reality.

Several weeks ago, we wrote about how Davis would be the one situation in which a trade for the Los Angeles Lakers would make sense. Even then, that was a hypothetical situation that would need certain circumstances to play out.

One of those circumstances seems to be playing out as Davis is reportedly leaving his longtime agent, Thad Foucher. The front-runner to represent Davis? Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group, the same agency that represents LeBron James.

With no real title window on the Pelicans and Davis’ desire to succeed, the Lakers might be the favorites for the next chapter of his career.

However, acquiring Davis is more than just black and white. Due to his current contract and the Lakers cap situation, the team would have to trade for him. Waiting for him to become a free agent won’t work logistically.
