The Los Angeles Lakers have high expectations next season after landing LeBron James in free agency. Here are three realistic goals for LA to keep in mind.

The Los Angeles Lakers are going to be radically different in the 2018-2019 than the team has been in the last five years.

As Kobe Bryant‘s career came to a rather quick close due to injuries, the Lakers front office began to scramble to rebuild the foundation without the team’s biggest star. The simple fact of the matter is that the Lakers were unprepared for such a quick fall from grace by Bryant and who could blame them, he was still great up until his Achilles injury.

What ensued was sloppy managing from the front office, which eventually led to Jeanie Buss cutting family cords and instead, putting the future of the franchise in Rob Pelinka and Magic Johnson‘s hands.

That ended up being the smartest move Buss could have made. The newfound Lakers front office managed to clear up cap space by picking what young assets to let go of and when to let go of them. All in all, it was managed perfectly.

That opened enough cap space for LeBron James this summer and now, with Luol Deng‘s buyout, enough for another superstar next summer.

For the first time since Steve Nash and Dwight Howard joined forces with Kobe (which obviously ended badly) the expectations are high for the purple and gold. However, it is important that the fans do not get too far ahead of the reality and the stakes the Lakers are up against.

With that being said, here are three realistic goals for the Los Angeles Lakers that every fan should be entering the season with.
