2. New Orleans cannot make it out of the first round of the playoffs

The only thing that is going to convince the New Orleans Pelicans of even considering trading for Anthony Davis is going to be the team’s inability to win a playoff series with the current roster. Even then, that just opens the door, Davis would have to do the rest.

Players have more power and control of their own fate in the NBA more than any other American professional sport. Whether it is teaming up with other stars on a new team or simply demanding a trade and getting it, the NBA is a player-driven league.

Davis is going to have to use that to his advantage if he wants out of New Orleans. The only problem is that since Davis has multiple years left under his contract, his pleas to get traded will not be as sound as someone that is entering the final year of his contract.

However, if the star simply does not want to play in New Orleans and the team cannot win a playoff series, the front office may have no other choice than to bring in young assets, stock up on the future and look towards a new wave of success.

Brandon Ingram would be the perfect piece for this as by next season he should be an all-star but he is so young that he could be the franchise piece for many years to come. It allows the Pelicans to stay somewhat competitive while also partaking in a youth movement.
