LeBron James had his first signature moment with the Los Angeles Lakers but still fell short to the San Antonio Spurs on Monday night.

LeBron James took the ball up the court with less than ten seconds remaining. There was no complexity to the final made shot of regulation, just the best player in the world doing what the best player in the world does.

Down by three points, James pulled up from 28 feet away and drained the basket to tie the game at 128. The Spurs were unable to score in the short time allotted to them and the game headed into overtime.

With a one-point lead and LeBron James at the line with 12.8 seconds left, the game seemed over. At worst, the Spurs would have to hit a three-point shot at the buzzer to send the game into double overtime.

That is when James erased the game-tying basket he had made earlier and missed both free throws. The Spurs took over possession, Patty Mills scored a mid-range jumper and the Lakers ultimately lost, 143-142.

The Los Angeles Lakers are now at three losses and still are searching for the team’s first win. While the team may not have gotten the first notch in the win column, there were some winners (and losers) from Monday night.
