5. Miami Marlins

The Miami Marlins are the least likely team to land Machado on this list and may seem like a longshot to sign the star. There are plenty of signs pointing to why this would not make sense for the Marlins and why it seemingly would not make sense for Machado.

The Marlins just had a flash sale of all their players to start from the ground up under the new, Derek Jeter-led, ownership. 2017 NL MVP Giancarlo Stanton, likely 2018 NL MVP Christian Yelich, Marcell Ozuna and Dee Gordon were all traded last winter. J.T. Realmuto could join that group this winter.

The Marlins made it a point to part ways with Stanton due to his massive contract. With that in mind, signing Machado does not seem to make a ton of sense.

For Machado, going to the Marlins would be as big of a fall from grace as possible. He would go from playing in pivotal World Series games to playing for a team that regularly fails to draw a decent crowd.

However, Miami is Machado’s hometown and that instantly makes the Marlins a candidate. Machado is totally Miami as well; the way in which he carries himself like there is not a worry in the world fits in nicely with the city of Miami.

The only thing is that Machado is likely going to be going to one of the highest bidders and the Marlins might not be willing to match a big figure.
