4. Arizona Diamondbacks

Initially, the Milwaukee Brewers seemed like a better fit for Machado than the Arizona Diamondbacks. Milwaukee was one of the teams that were embroiled in the Machado sweepstakes over the summer and has a hole to fill at shortstop and the money to pay.

However, after the NLCS, in which Machado was exposed as a dirty player and Christian Yelich had some not-so-nice things to say, the Brewers seem to be off the table.

Upon further pondering, the Arizona Diamondbacks emerged as a team that made sense to go after Machado and give him the big contract he is looking for. While the fit location-wise does not seem ideal for Machado, he could chase the dollar signs just like Zack Greinke did in 2015.

The Diamondbacks were also one of the teams in the running for Machado at the MLB Trade Deadline and still have a hole at shortstop for a slick fielding, power-hitting shortstop.

The window of opportunity is closing for the Diamondbacks and this could be the team’s last surge to try and capitalize on Paul Goldschmidt‘s prime. Plus, this could always convince Goldschmidt to stay around, whereas no other star would likely mean his departure after 2019.

The team still needs to address the starting rotation and other holes on the roster. However, adding Machado would solve a lot of problems (and make him the most hated player in baseball for Dodger fans).
