Los Angeles Dodgers: Three different ways to handle second base
By Jason Reed
1. Platoon with current pieces
The Los Angeles Dodgers certainly love a good platoon (sometimes a little bit too much) and could simply platoon with the current guys the team has on the roster. This is probably the most realistic scenario for the Dodgers considering the market of what is available this winter.
If the Dodgers wanted to simply address this internally than the second basemen for most of next season would be Enrique Hernandez and Max Muncy.
Hernandez would serve as the southpaw specialist with better defending that would start every time against a left-handed pitcher. Against right-handed pitchers, Muncy would get the nod at second, with Cody Bellinger at first and Hernandez could even play elsewhere in the field if needed.
The only downfall of this is taking away reps from two guys that, when hot, are two of the best bats in the entire offense.
When Hernandez is seeing the ball well, he puts together great at-bats every single time up with surprising pop and good speed. What makes him even more valuable is his borderline elite defense.
Muncy, meanwhile, can slug it with the best of them when he is swinging the bat well, although does provide a bad defensive outlook at second.
