Los Angeles Rams: The three things that led to loss number one
By Jason Reed
1. Marcus Peters
Having just one player be one of the three reasons why the entire team lost seems a bit harsh. However, Marcus Peters had one of the worst days we have seen an elite cornerback have in quite some time and allowed a lot of the Saints’ offense to flow through their best wide receiver, Michael Thomas.
Thomas caught 12 receptions for 211 yards and one touchdown. While Thomas certainly is an elite receiver and can put up big numbers, this is no ordinary day for the wideout and, quite frankly, is not an ordinary day for any wideout.
Thomas deserves all the praise he is getting but he was certainly helped out by Peters’ bad play.
The stamp on a bad day for Peters came on the Saints’ 72-yard touchdown pass that essentially put the game on ice. Peters was making some sort of adjustment at the line when Drew Brees snapped the ball and sailed a bomb over Peters’ outstretched hands into Thomas’ arms for the touchdown.
This led to a nice callback celebration to Joe Horn and had many Rams’ fans calling for better coverage out of Marcus Peters.
The secondary has been a problem in recent weeks and Marcus Peters epitomized what every Rams fan was worried about. At least he got his worst game of the season out of the way.
