Los Angeles Dodgers: Why a trade for J.T. Realmuto won’t happen
By Jason Reed
J.T. Realmuto is the latest trade target that is connected to the Los Angeles Dodgers, however, Realmuto will never be sporting the Dodger blue.
Last offseason the biggest trade target for the Los Angeles Dodgers was Giancarlo Stanton. However, due to his massive salary and the Dodgers’ desire to stay underneath the luxury tax, the Dodgers opted not to trade for Stanton despite being Stanton’s number one choice.
This offseason, another Miami Marlin is connected to the Los Angeles Dodgers in J.T. Realmuto. There were slight rumblings of the Dodgers potentially pursuing Realmuto in the past with Yasmani Grandal being on an expiring deal.
That obviously never happened and now Grandal is a free agent and the Dodgers are legitimately in the market for Realmuto, whose agent stated that he wanted out of Miami. Realmuto is almost certainly going to be traded this winter, the question is just who.
Many people, even those outside of the Dodger fanbase, think it will be the Los Angeles Dodgers. And while the idea of Realmuto is certainly intriguing to me, there are hurdles that need to be overcome to get this deal done.
I do not think the Dodgers are going to be willing to go over those hurdles in order to get Realmuto. Here are those three things that will ultimately keep this trade from happening.
