Los Angeles Dodgers: Smartest trades to execute if not J.T. Realmuto
By Jason Reed
The most likely trade target for the Los Angeles Dodgers this winter is J.T. Realmuto. However, that does not mean he is the only trade target.
The Los Angeles Dodgers seem to be in the market for a catcher this winter after Yasmani Grandal rejected the team’s qualifying offer and hit the open market. Whether or not the team really needs a catcher is a long discussion (and something we pretty much talked about here).
However, whether or not that is a need has not negated the fact that the Los Angeles Dodgers are one of the prime candidates for J.T. Realmuto, who reportedly wants out of Miami.
Realmuto is one of the most valuable, if not the most valuable, catchers that could be dealt at this time. Not only has he proven to be one of the leagues best offensively and can hold his own behind the dish, but he is also under arbitration the next two seasons, making him a financially sound move as well.
Because of his immense trade value, the Los Angeles Dodgers could be hesitant in sending the Marlins the desired trade package, especially considering the Marlins could ask for more in a deal due to the Dodgers farm system being so deep.
With that in mind (and other factors that you can read here) I do not think that the Dodgers will pull the trigger for J.T. Realmuto. However, that does not mean that there aren’t any deals for the team to explore.
Here are the three smartest trades the front office can make if the team does not land J.T. Realmuto.
